tiaraiconalmost didn't make the cut

I apologize for my recent absence in the blogosphere.  I started a new job on Wednesday and by the time it's day end, my energy has been depleted.  Since I'm a newbie, I've been wearing ultra conservative outfits (think boring trousers, plain blouse, minimal bling and muted nail polish) which are not very exciting or blog worthy.  Once I get into the swing of things at work I will be back to my leopard print and colourful outfits but I don't want to alarm my colleagues...yet!

I almost didn't post these pictures that I took a few weeks ago.  You know when you run out of poses and you think of something and in theory it's better than nothing cute(like me drinking homemade lemonade) but in practice it does not deliver (like my double chins when I'm sucking on the straw).  Oh dear, let's just focus on the fun and affordable thrifted outfit for now.

Homemade lemonade brought to you by my boy who painstakingly squoze squeezed the lemons and limes by hand upon realizing that we do not own a juicer :)

tiaraicondouble date

Even better than date night is double date night! The hardest part is finding another couple that you mesh well with but thankfully my boy and my best friend's boy have similar interests in video games and well that seems to carry the conversation far enough! The sweet ML of Twenty York Street gave me this beautiful skirt as a birthday gift and I thought it would be the perfect ensemble for dinner at Blue Cactus followed by cheap wine and games night.  I added some gold accessories and my strappy leopard heels to punch up the outfit.  Even better than dressing for date night is picking out the perfect outfit for double date night (because let's be honest women dress for other women!)

I didn't realize until looking at this photo how badly I need a pedicure!

tiaraiconhappy easter!

Happy Easter! I hope everyone enjoyed some time off spent with their loved ones.  On my down time I baked Easter themed cupcakes and orchestrated an indoor Easter egg hunt for the boy (he never had one growing up as it was not part of the Lebanese tradition so I thought it was high time!)  As my family is out east in Nova Scotia, we had a lovely Easter lunch with the boy's family, and even though my voice is low and husky from my cold we had a great time!

Spring chick- dyed yellow coconut, orange gummy and mini M&Ms

I wore my new rainbow coloured dress to lunch and enjoyed the (better late than never) warmth in Ottawa while the boy and I babysat his 9 nieces and nephews at the nearby park.

tiaraiconlittle house on the prairie

In this outfit I feel like a character straight out of Little House on the Prairie.  All that's missing are the braided pigtails and family farm.  I bought this blouse at The Salvation Army for only $2.50 and I love its coral colour and girly bow.  This skirt cost $4 from Value Village and I was drawn to its length and nautical pattern.  Sometimes it's fun to play dress up, fashion is about not taking ourselves too seriously and playing with colour, textures and patterns.

tiaraiconrain rain go away

Rain + feeling sick= a recipe for a dreary day.  But I decided to get out of my slump, throw on the brightest jacket I could find and visit my local Chapters for a little pick me up.  Chapters is the Canadian version of Indigo and I could spend hours browsing their cookbooks, fashion magazines and home gifts.  After I'd satisfied my literary appetite, the boy and I went to see the new thriller Hanna which is about a 14 year old girl who was raised by her father to act as a robotic killing machine.  The movie was meh, too much violence and not enough of a story line to keep me interested.

tiaraiconten for fashion

The beautiful and stylin' Claire of Spinning Threads recently tagged me to share 10 things I love with my readers.  I decided to follow her lead and talk about fashion related loves.  I wore a downplayed version of this outfit (no hat and different shoes) to a fashion shoot I styled for Ef Magazine over the weekend.  The shoot was styled entirely from second hand, thrifted and vintage clothing and accessories and I wore my new thrifted dress from Salvation Army for the occassion.  I can't wait to see the final results of the photoshoot and will be sure to share them with you!

Can you see where Marley my cat is?

tiaraiconthe pajama project {kimono & toothbrush}

It's the second edition of Twenty York Street & The Farmgirl Fashionista's Pajama Project.  For the last post, I stayed comfy and cosy so I thought I'd keep it fun and flirty this time.  Not that I have ever worn hosiery and high heels with my kimono style lingerie nor brushed my teeth with my eye shades on my head but you know- had to add some flair!

Kimono- La Senza; Eye shades- Old Navy; Hosiery- Walmart & Heels- Aldo

For those of you who have never worn eye shades I highly recommend it.  I sleep with eye shades and ear plugs for maximum sensory deprivation!

Sleep tight!

tiaraiconthrifted & gifted

I am a huge thrift store, consignment shop and second hand clothing treasure hunter.  I love searching out hidden gems- you know what they say- one woman's faded and outdated is another woman's chic and sleek! Today I popped into the local Salvation Army and was greeted with welcome news- 50% off everything in the store! So I shopped till I dropped and then called a friend and fellow thrifter to accompany me to a second location to continue the hunt.

In total I bought 5 dresses (breaking my own dress ban-oopsie!); 8 blouses; 1 scarf and 2 belts for a whooping total of $48.50!!!!!

Patterned blouse= $2; Denim shirt (Liz Claiborne)= $2.50; Shorts (Club Monaco)= $3; Belts = $0.50 each; Blue scarf= $2

Floral blouse= $2.50; Polka dot blouse (Smart Set)- $4; Denim shirt- $2.50

Patterned blouse- $2.50; Coral pink blouse- $2.50; Polka dotted blouse (because one is never enough!)- $2

Striped dress (Club Monaco)- $5; Blue maxi dress (Old Navy)- $4.50; Rainbow dress- $5

Floral dress- $2.50; Butterfly dress- $5
So that's the thrifting and here's the gifting- beautiful jewellery and nail polish from the boy's travels to Arizona.  Last night was my best friend's b-day so I wore my new thrifted Topshop dress and paired it with gifted accessories for an easy and environmentally friendly ensemble.
